The Scottish Mini Cooper Cup heads down south this weekend to Donington Park for their penultimate event of the season, launching the Mini’s into Octobers season finale! The Mini’s will be supporting the MSVR Club Car Championships event at Donington Park – national layout – this Saturday, with the Enduroka endurance racing championship taking the track on Sunday.
The Championship Battles Heads To Donington!
As it stands Jack Irvine has a storming lead at the top of standings with a 70 point gap to second placed and highly talented Chad Little – who won the championship last season. If Irvine can secure another 10 points this weekend at Donington Park over his championship rival Little, he in theory would win the championship a round early, with 79 points being the maximum a driver can secure during the season finale in October – not including drop rounds. When drop rounds come into the equation, it get’s quite complicated;
How Irvine could secure the championship at Donington Park
- Irvine wins both races – with no fastest laps or pole position. Little comes second and receives a disqualification, with allowance for either 2 fastest laps or a fastest lap and pole position.
- Irvine comes 2nd in both races – with no fastest laps or pole position. Little comes 4th in one race and is disqualified from the next
While this is a very unrealistic scenario, it is theoretically possible for Irvine to secure the title this weekend at Donington, however the chances of this are extremely low. The short of it is, if there is absolute chaos as the Mini’s often provide. There is a chance for Irvine.
7; That’s All That’s In The Newcomers!
In terms of the Newcomers, it’s a straight shoot-out between Liam Kelso and Presley Barrett as they head to the possibly one of the most crucial rounds of their careers with a 7 point gap between themselves – with Barrett in the front seat! 1 race is all it takes for the other to take the upper hand in this tense title fight.
Heading to Donington Kelso is on form taking a clean sweep from the unsuspecting Barrett last time out at Knockhill, firmly putting his foot into the race for the 2026 newcomers title, however Barrett has been on top all season so far with the Northern Irish driver showcasing his talent all season long!
Martin Wijetunga Hopes To Build On Knockhill Success
Last time out at Knockhill a dramatic race 3 and a brilliant defensive driver gave Wijetunga his first career win the Scottish Mini’s! He’ll be one to watch this weekend at Donington Park as he will hope to build from his win and give Irvine and Little a challenge in what shall be a Brilliant display from the Scottish Mini’s this weekend at Donington Park!
