The Reigning Independent Champion Of The British Touring Car Championship Daniel Lloyd Returns To The BTCC!

Restart Racing have confirmed that Daniel Lloyd will return to the team for the final four rounds of the BTCC season in 2026

Lloyd won the Independents championship in 2025, just beating Mikey Doble and PMR to the title after their devasting fire mid-season. Lloyd will not be in contention for the independents championship this season as he has missed the first 6 events – 18 races – of the 2026 season, however his rival for the 2025 title Mikey Doble currently leads the title, enjoying a successful campaign so far, including his second overall race win at Donnington Park in the first race of the season after Tom Ingrams disqualification

This news has come unexpectedly after James Dorlins departure which was announced just hours before Lloyd was announced to replace him. Lloyd commented on the unexpected nature of the move in his announcement post on Instagram stating “This has come out of nowhere but it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up!” but also showing sympathy to James Dorlin saying that he does “feel for James not being able to continue and it’s a place I’ve been in before which isn’t nice so I wish him all the best.”

In regards to James Dorlin; Reports suggest that Dorlin’s funding has run out and has left him unable to compete for the rest of the season, suffering a similar fate to Ronan Pearson in 2024. It’s sad to see another driver have to drop out from the BTCC due to funding issues, but we hope to see James back for 2027!

Daniel Lloyd will compete in the final four rounds of the British Touring Car Championship season at Donington Park GP, Croft, Sliverstone National and the season finale at Brands Hatch GP, the same track where he won his first Independents Championship less than a year ago!
