Another weekend arrives in the motorsport world with the inaugural F1 grand prix at the Madring being the headline act. However, Scotlands only FIA grade circuit returns to action with action from the KMSC, SMRC and the British Sprint Championship; so let’s dive into the KMSC sector and what to expect this weekend!
Scottish Legends Championship;
The headliner Scottish Legends Championship returns to Knockhill club racing action this weekend after an away round at Croft Circuit and of course after supporting the BTCC at Knockhill in early August!
There is plenty of stories up and down the grid, with one of the main stories being Ben Mason’s absence, as the reigning champion struggles with funding after suffering major car issues following the BTCC support round – hopefully we can see Mason back in his Cresta car soon and he can remind everyone on the bankings why he is a legend of this series!
This comes alongside a hugely decreased Legends grid with only 23 Legends on the entry list – which at the start of the season was a whooping 34, which is the max Knockhill can allow on track at once!
Matthew Pape and Michael Weddell both enter a crucial round for the championship – with Weddell closing in on Pape, the Edinburgh man only 300 points away from the championship lead! It’s safe to say the next 6 races are pivotal to the championship battle, a successful weekend from Pape could give him the edge into the season finale and help his push to a first Scottish Legends title. On the other side of the coin, if Weddell manages to overtake Pape and take the championship lead, the on form man will be extremely difficult to beat, and pip to the championship!
Angus Scrivener is the one to watch this weekend, as the on from 18-year-old rookie looks to close in on the championship leaders and possibly provide one of the series biggest ever shock titles! Scrivener podiumed in every single race at Croft taking 2 wins while he was at it. It’s safe to say that if Scrivener sticks around next season, he has the potential to dominate the field and the take the title home!
During Friday testing, Scrivener did experience some issues, with a clip on his instagram story showcasing his bonnet flying off the car between Clark’s and the Blackcircles.com Chicane! Scrivener captioned the video “didn’t want a bonnet anyway” adding a bit of humour to the situation and gaining a chuckle from fans keeping an eye on the rookies socials at home.
Scottish Modsports;
The multi-class championship returns back to Knockhill this weekend after an entertaining weekend supporting the Caterham Festival at Knockhill. Mark Thomson leads the championship with Ron Cumming making chase – although being hindered by a weekend plagued with poor luck and results, including a mega crash in his Nemesis during race one!
If your roaming the paddock on Saturday morning, make sure to check out Ron Cumming’s car, as he has managed to repair his Nemesis from his August crash, with the red car being a stunning sight in Knockhill’s paddock
It’s also worth noting that the Super Lap Scotland championship will be returning to Knockhill for the first time since April!
Plenty of KMSC action is on the way to Knockhill this weekend – if your at the circuit keep your eyes peeled for battles throughout the field and especially on Matthew Pape and Michael Weddell!
